Researched September 2026
This page explains how junkyards, pick-and-pull yards, and used auto parts sellers work in Palm Beach County, Florida (West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, Lake Worth, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton, and nearby). It covers who operates here, roughly what parts cost, what junk cars sell for, and where the industry is heading.
Most of the county's parts recycling happens along the industrial corridor west of I-95 in West Palm Beach and Lake Worth. Two large self-service yards sit next to each other on Benoist Farms Road. Several family-run full-service recyclers operate along Military Trail. On top of those are dozens of junk-car buyers, towing firms, and scrap-metal dealers. Salvage auctions (Copart in West Palm Beach and an IAA branch in Jupiter) sell insurance total-loss vehicles, mostly to licensed dealers, rebuilders, and exporters.
How many? No official count is published for this niche. One directory (USJunkYards.com) claims 209 "junkyards and auto salvage yards" in Palm Beach County, but its listings include towing companies, parts stores, and even a car wash. Another (U-Pull-It.com) lists 8 yards and recyclers in the city of West Palm Beach (both viewed Sep 28, 2026). Estimate Based on those listings, the county has about 2 self-service yards and roughly 5–10 full-service used-parts recyclers, plus many more junk-car buyers and scrap dealers.

Approximate Most published figures come from junk-car buyers' own marketing, so treat them as rough guides:
Newer, heavier, and complete vehicles bring more. A missing catalytic converter usually lowers the offer. Sources and dates are listed below.
In October 2025, LKQ sold its whole self-service division, Pick Your Part (61 U.S. yards, including West Palm Beach), to an affiliate of private-equity firm Pacific Avenue Capital Partners for a $410 million enterprise value. The new owner says it plans more acquisitions. The neighboring U-Pull-&-Pay yard belongs to Pull-A-Part. On the auction side, Copart reported fiscal-2026 revenue of about $4.7 billion (up 0.4%) and announced a deal to buy the digital dealer auction ACV.
Repairs keep getting more expensive. Copart says repair costs are up more than 50% since 2019, and total-loss frequency hit a record 23.3% in Q2 2026, so more insured cars are written off and sent to salvage. At the same time, Copart's U.S. unit sales fell 6.9% for the fiscal year as collision claims declined. Nationally, the Automotive Recyclers Association says the industry employs over 140,000 people at more than 9,000 U.S. locations, with about $32 billion in sales.
Buying used parts online keeps growing. eBay said its Motors category (mostly parts and accessories) added nearly 2 points of growth in Q2 2026, and it is expanding new, used, and recycled parts. Local recyclers sell through eBay and nationwide locator networks.
Ferrous scrap prices, including auto shred, were flat ("sideways") from August into September 2026, according to industry market reports. That points to steady rather than rising scrap-car payouts in the near term.
Hybrid and EV batteries are a growing challenge. The Automotive Recyclers Association wrote in July 2026 that high-voltage batteries are "hypothetically valuable but, in practice, can carry a substantial negative cost to recycle," especially lower-value LFP types. Battery recyclers such as Redwood Materials now give licensed dismantlers online offers for packs. At the local self-service yard, a hybrid battery is listed at $416 plus a core deposit.
Florida storms add salvage supply. CARFAX estimated up to 120,000 Florida vehicles were flood-damaged by Hurricane Milton in 2024, and 138,000 across several states by Helene. Copart's fiscal-2025 results got a one-time boost from those storms. Flooded cars can also resurface for sale later, sometimes in other states.
